Silver Dragon Chinese Food Restaurant
About This Spot
Silver Dragon Chinese Food Restaurant sits quietly on Cobden Road, a small but steady beacon for those craving a familiar, homey take on Chinese cuisine in Ottawa’s west end. From the moment you step inside, there’s a gentle, unpretentious rhythm that feels less like a busy restaurant and more like a local kitchen where flavors and friendships have simmered side by side over time.
The space is modest and straightforward, inviting you to pause and enjoy simple moments — whether picking up a late dinner or settling in for a casual meal. There’s an air of warmth in the friendly exchanges behind the counter, where genuine care in service leaves a small but lasting impression. The pace reflects a family-run comfort, not hurried or polished, but focused on delivering something true to its roots.
Here, the menu feels like an affectionate nod to mid-level Chinese dishes many of us recall fondly. It’s the kind of place where dishes like tender Tao Chicken and richly flavored Imperial Beef Ding arrive as familiar companions to a meal, evoking the pleasure of discovering little favorites that feel quietly special. Soups, sweet and sour plates, and the occasional spicy Szechuan offering weave together a comforting variety that suits easy, everyday dining — the kind that beckons you back time and again.
Despite its humble scale, Silver Dragon has carved out a niche as a reliable spot in the neighborhood, especially for those moments when other places close early or feel too impersonal. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite to go or savoring a combo plate with enough portion to share, the experience here is steady and sincere. The compact egg rolls and the soulful approach to service reflect a place that values consistency and a personal touch above all.
There’s a sense of quiet history too, a local rhythm that’s been sustained for decades, where flavors and faces are as familiar as a well-worn alleyway. Silver Dragon invites you to slow down just a little and enjoy the comforting continuity of a place that feels rooted in everyday community life, where food isn’t just about flavor but about belonging.

New Year's Eve was hard to find a place near me that was even opened past 8pm one even said they stopped taking orders as it was 7pm when I was ordering for myself. Also to find one that would deliver?! These guys were great, happy to take my order #3 combo plate, extra egg roll (open ended the best), pepsi & a fortune cookie. Delivered within an hour 1/2 as said, because they were so busy. Understandable. Large portion of warm food and good value for the money. Cost $32 (taxes + tip 20% included). Loved the open ended egg rolls & mixed vegetables in my chicken almond guy ding, 4 large chicken balls & so much chicken fried rice. I had enough for 2 meals out of it.i will definitely order from here again! I would share a picture but doesn't appear to have that option here?

Finally found a Great Chinese place. I've tried ALOT of places and none compares to Silver Dragon. The lady at the counter (best customer service, restaurant or service I've experienced in a long time) is a gem. Food was delicious, amazing egg rolls, small but GREAT. Will be back, thank you for the great experience.

Gonna be honest, my family has occasionally had Silver Dragon Chinese food for 20+ years. Many of their items are often more mid Chinese food similar to mall style Chinese but the menu has some real hidden treasures that I just don’t get in other places anywhere I go. On top of that the service has always been very good even if a little slow some nights, it’s a small family run business. Posted some pictures of my favourite items, and I seriously cannot recommend them enough. The pan fried dumplings are one of the cheaper menu items, they are large, full of meat and the sauce that comes along with it is a perfect blend of sweet and savoury. The General Taos chicken is unlike any other place I’ve had in my life. Rather that a spicy chicken with a kick, theirs is more of a mild and smooth sauce that’s always good.

Ordered a combination plate. Very good portions and very tasty. Egg rolls were small and seemed pre-made.
